OK, so how awkward is it to talk about deodorants but with October being breast cancer awareness month I thought it was only fitting to share my reasons for switching things up in that department.
As a mom I’m definitely sensitive to products and ingredients my kids use. My 9 year old recently asked me about deodorants so I started to look into what the best option for her would be. I was absolutely disgusted at the ingredients used in most deodorants. After doing some more research online I stumbled across Native Deodorant. It’s both paraben-free but also free of aluminum which has been linked to Alzheimer’s and breast cancer. I decided it was time for me to make the switch as well and went on ahead and ordered two.
As we waited for our new deodorants to arrive I had found a detox recipe through wellness mama. As strange as it sounded to detox our pits I figured why the heck not, my daughter probably thinks I’ve officially lost my mind but what else is new. I happened to already own the bentonite clay mask because it makes an amazing mask for your face and is SUPER cheap on amazon. You can find it HERE, for just $8.50, and a little goes a long way. Well, back to the detox, you mix equal parts (1 tablespoon) clay and apple cider vinegar and just a little bit of water just to get the right consistency, smear it on and wait about 20 minutes.
After pulling out all the toxins and having bonding/giggling time with my daughter we rinsed off and tried our native deodorants. The smells did not disappoint! Addison, my daughter, chose their coconut vanilla which smells like a beach vacation. I ended up with Lavender & Rose which gives a wonderful floral scent.
To say I was nervous on how this natural deodorant would hold up against my usual stuff, is an understatement. I would even apply it multiple times a day just to be proactive against any unpleasant smells. Ain’t nobody got time for that, lol.
Now that I’ve been using this for just over a month, I swear I’m noticing less sweat?! To the point where I forget if I’ve applied it in the mornings or not. I do want to continue with the detox’s once a month as well. Awkward, sure, but it’s just another excuse to be hang and be silly with my girl.
I highly suggest you do your own research and make the right decision for you but overall I’m happy with my choice to make the change. I don’t even miss my old stuff and feel confident in the fact my natural deodorant is doing it’s job.
