Clearly I am WAY behind over here. December was a whirlwind that ended with some type of virus making it’s way through most of our household. I’m so happy to be back at it and giving ya’ll my honest opinion on my December subscription boxes.
Birchbox is always the first to arrive so I’ll start with my review on this past months products.
NuFACE Prep-N-Glow Cloths– I received 2 and was so happy I did. I’ve actually used these before and love them for removing makeup on days I’m just to lazy to wash my face. They’re double sided so they really get the job done with one side focusing on removing dirt and oil while the other side exfoliates. I love these because they don’t irritate my skin like some makeup removing cloths do.
Love of Color Liquid Shimmer Shadow– I’m really not a huge eyeshadow gal, especially in shimmer colors, but I will say the product itself was great. A little goes a long way, I had applied just a touch on my lid and then used my pinky, so classy I know, to spread it over my lid. The formula dried quickly as well which was nice.
Marcelle Ultimate Volue Nano Mascara– This was just not what I wanted it to be. The applicator is so small that it almost felt like it was scratching my skin when I was applying at the base of my lashes. Not only did the wand hurt my lids but the formula was a huge miss for me. I’m VERY picky about my mascaras and this one is just not worth the price.
Whish Botanical Primer– This sample size came over half empty. I did try what was in there and from what I could tell it did the trick but I’ve defiantly used better primers.
Aveda Thickening Tonic– OK, why Birchbox thinks I would need/want this in my box is silly. I have the THICKEST hair and if anything need something to tame this mane not add to it. Receiving this made me feel like Birchbox isn’t as tailored to my needs. I will say that I did try it out for the sake of the blog and it did nothing except make my hair feel greasy.
Birchbox did throw in a cute gift with the eyelash curler and I thought that was a nice touch overall.
OK, so moving on to Sephora’s PLAY! Box.
Smashbox Duo– OK, so I’m really not a huge eye shadow gal BUT I think I’m going to buy the full size pallet! I loved the formula, how it applied and lasted throughout the day. SOLD!
Laura Mercier Eye Basics– This lid primer was amazing. If I’m going to go the extra step and apply shadow then I may as well make sure the shadow lasts till the end of the day. Zero creasing and creates the perfect canvas.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss– I love the Anastasia brow products so I guess it came as no surprise that I really liked this gloss as well. It was lightweight and came in a beautiful dusty rose shade. I’ll definitely be repurchasing when this runs out.
24K Gold Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Prism Cream– I ended up adding this to my CC cream and really liked the natural glow it added to my skin. I also felt like it was really hydrating. It promises firmer skin, and maybe you have to use it for a longer period of time, but so far my skin isn’t any firmer. Very pretty though and loved the packaging.
Drybar Triple Sec 3-in-1– I wouldn’t say this extended my days between hair washings but it definitely added much needed volume on my last day. I’m not a fan of their dry shampoo so I went into this feeling like I wouldn’t like it but I was proven wrong. Between this and dry shampoo I can safely go 4 days without washing.
TOM FORD Black Orchid– I think I’ve said before in previous posts but I’m not a huge fan of perfumes. I’m just very sensitive to smells and most turn my stomach. This one however was really nice with a floral scent.
Overall I think the PLAY! Box is the clear winner. It felt more customized to me with brands that I would buy and use. Not that Birchbox doesn’t have brands I don’t like, I just felt like the PLAY! box was better suited for me.
